Creatures (Mobs)
In Minecraft, any creature that moves is mobile, so they are called "mobs". Here are descriptions for some of the mobs you are likely to encounter in the game.
Creeper - Creepers are four legged creatures and are green. Do not get close to them and try to kill them with a sword unless it’s an iron or better. Creepers will self-destruct if you go near them or they go near you. They will make a hissing sound when they are about to explode, run away if they do this. I would recommend killing them from range with a bow and arrow.
The Enderdragon - This mob is one of the most formidable because well it’s a dragon. A warning if you’re thinking of going to the end, the only way you can leave the end is by killing this dragon and that’s easier said than done because you can’t just walk into the end and kill the dragon. The dragon has a bunch of crystals surrounding it and if you deal any damage to the dragon, those crystals will just heal it so you have to destroy every single crystal if you are to even have a chance at killing the dragon.
|
Endermen - The Enderman: The Enderman is one of the more scary mobs in Minecraft. The Enderman is roughly 3 blocks tall. They are a neutral mob, that if you attack will attack you back. Another way to get an Enderman to attack you is by looking at him in the eyes, he will take that as a sign of hostility and start to attack you. Endermen are scary because not only are they tall and skinny, but they have the ability to teleport, which means that you should usually try to back up against a wall when fighting an Enderman, because then he can’t teleport behind you.
|
Silverfish - Silverfish are tiny little spider-like creatures except they have no legs. You should be very careful about breaking blocks in dungeons because some of the blocks are silverfish spawn eggs, you can tell that you are about to break a spawn egg when it’s taking longer than usual to break this block. |
Wild Wolf
|
Wolf – Wolves, at first, are wild and you can see them roaming through the forests and plains. But if you want a nice, cuddly and loyal pet, then just take a few bones that you collected from killing skeletons and then feed the wild wolf enough bones and it’ll erupt some love hearts and have a collar around its neck. Just don’t hit a wild wolf because those things are like zombie pigmen, you hit one, they all attack. And when a wolf is angry at you, it is untameable (you can tell a wolf is angry when its eyes are red).

Tamed Wolf
|
Zombie Pigman - The zombie Pigman, you will only find in the Nether. Now whatever you do, do not hit a Pigman because then every single Pigman within the nearest vicinity, will come over and all start attacking you. All Zombie Pigmen carry a golden sword, which, if you go read about swords below you will discover are not very good. |
Swords
Let’s talk about swords. There are five different materials you can use to make a sword.
Places
The End: The End is the place where you go to defeat the Ender Dragon. You get there through an End Portal in a dungeon. You must come prepared though because once you enter the End, the only way to get out is either by killing the Dragon, or getting killed. The End is also home to endermites and endermen. |
Other Stuff
Blocks: The two types of blocks that any new player to Minecraft will recognise are the grass block and the dirt block, but there are actually hundreds of different blocks. Here is a link to a dictionary to the different types of blocks: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Block |
The Status Bar
Hearts show you how much health you have. If you have no hearts you are dead and if you somehow have no hearts and are STILL alive, then you are either modding the game, hacking the game, or your minecraft is broken. The meat symbol shows you how much hunger you have. If it is full then you are full and don’t need any food, but if it has only three symbols or less, you will find that you will be unable to sprint due to hunger. If it runs out, then you will start to take damage until you eat something. The green bar under your hunger and health bars is your xp bar (experience bar). The green number shows you how many levels you have, you can use these levels to enchant items and either combine, re-name or repair items on the anvil. If you die, or enchant, combine, re-name or repair something, it will take away your levels. On the enchantment table, it will show you how many levels your action will cost you, and it’s the same with the anvil. The nine boxes under your xp bar is your hot bar. Your inventory is quite big but, the hot bar is where you’ll keep your main items such as a sword, food, a pickaxe etc. |
Spawn Eggs: Spawn eggs are used to spawn in any creature you want. For more information on spawn eggs, follow this link.
